Coffee with Randy Owen
It was a Friday morning when my phone rang and the voice on the end of the line said “Hello, this is Randy Owen”. Anyone who knows anything about Country Music knows about the legendary group Alabama and lead singer Randy Owen.
As lead singer of the super group Alabama the band earned two Grammys, two People's Choice Awards, sold 73 Million records , 42 #1 Singles, 21 Gold, Platinum and Multiplatinum albums, received an astounding 150 industry awards including eight “Entertainer of the Year” awards, the Academy of Country Musics “Artist of the Decade” and Country Music's highest honor, being inducted into The Country Music Hall of Fame.
"I'm proud of everything we accomplished, and I hold what we did with Alabama as a very scared part of my life".
Randy Owen the singer, songwriter, entertainer and rancher is launching a solo career with a new album “One On One” and his new book “Born Country”. I saw Randy in concert at the Alabama Theatre in Myrtle Beach and a great performer is exactly what he is! The fans connect with him in his shows... he doesn't take them for granted. “It's all about the fans, The fans come first”, said Randy. His long connection with his fans is why he titled the album “One on One”.
We spoke about the “tremendous impact” that working with St. Jude's Children's Hospital has had on him. No organization is dearer to his heart then St. Jude's. “It's shown me that if you follow that tender spot in your heart, miracles can happen. St. Jude's has been a huge part of my life and it's a bigger part now than it has been over the past 20 years”, said Randy. For his efforts last year, Tony Thomas, son of St. Jude’s founder Danny Thomas, presented Randy with prestigious Founder's Award.
“There is more than playing guitar, singing and writing songs; it makes a difference to use the talent God blessed you with to make a difference in peoples lives. Take it and use it in a positive way”...
“I still love to get out and play. I'm head-over-heels into this album, and I'm in it for the long run” stated Randy Owen
At the end of our conversation it wasn't just me talking with Randy Owen, lead singer of Alabama, it was me having “Coffee with Randy Owen”, the man.
